Project Overview

The freshman design project is a course which enables students to learn about the world of engineering through hands on work and, in the case of Entrepreneurial Design and 3D printing, the creation of a product for use in everyday life. Group 7 will design and construct an automatic plant-watering system. This project will encompass ideas of engineering as well as implementation of physical, mathematical, and natural laws. The finished product will be capable of watering various plants on completely customizable time intervals with very little human input and maintenance required. The challenges that will be faced will come about through the task of designing a system that is both consistent in its operations and nearly-autonomous. Group 7 will implement various innovative ideas, such as interchangeable, differently-sized watering chambers and an alarm clock-based timer system, to overcome common pitfalls in similar products, such as inability to be customized and inconsistency.
